Volunteering at John Storer House

John Storer Charnwood is a volunteer-rich organisation relying heavily on the time, skills, inspiration and commitment of volunteers to support and assist the work of the staff team.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and have many different motivations for volunteering including:

  • Using or building on skills and experience • Learning new skills • Gaining experience for employment • Making new friends • Increasing confidence • Having a sense of purpose • Having something to do to fill time • Feeling useful or needed • Giving something back • Trying something different

Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL)

VAL helps people to find volunteering opportunities and supports organisations to recruit and manage volunteers across Leicester City and Leicestershire. They support volunteering by offering one-to-one support for anyone interested in volunteering and assistance to groups/organisations that want to involve volunteers in their work.

Could you become a volunteer for our Dial A Ride scheme?

Volunteer drivers use their own cars or one of our vehicles to transport older passengers in Charnwood to their health or social appointments, helping to maintain their independence if they are unable to use public transport or live in isolated areas. Volunteer drivers provide passengers with a safe, comfortable journey and a reassuring and friendly face.

Volunteer for just a few hours or a whole day or more – it’s up to you. Mileage is reimbursed at 45p per mile and a new DBS Certificate is required.
