Everyone's Someone at John Storer Charnwood

312 years ago, John Storer started feeding hungry people in Charnwood. Today, over 200 families depend on us every week. Without your help, they go without.

Right here in Charnwood, families are facing impossible choices. Universal Credit sanctions leave them with nothing. Rising costs mean working families can’t afford both rent and food. Health problems force people out of work with no safety net.
This isn’t happening somewhere else. It’s happening here, in Loughborough, across Charnwood. Over 200 couples and families come to us every week because they have nowhere else to turn.
When someone walks into Your Store, they’re not getting a handout. They’re shopping with dignity, choosing what their family needs, just like any other supermarket – except they pay just £4.50 for three days support that would cost £20-30 elsewhere
"Without this I'd be using my credit card and when you can't pay your credit card back, that puts added pressure on you."

Your donation doesn’t just put food on tables. It provides essentials families can’t afford – toilet rolls, nappies, toothbrushes, toiletries. It funds the support that helps people get back on their feet.
"It gives me the stable food that I need to live on. And some health things as well. Like shaving cream and stuff like that. They've helped me a lot in other ways as well with other links they've got to... helping me with filling in forms and stuff like that as well."

"Just knowing that they've got the essentials, you know, just even bread, eggs, milk, just that are going to keep you going. And it's lifting. It does make you feel better when you're feeling really down."

For some of our members, Your Store is the only place they have a conversation all week. Your donation funds not just food, but human connection, dignity, and hope.
In 1713, quarry owner John Storer left money to “provide food and clothing for the poor of the borough.” In 1965, the people of Charnwood raised more funds to build John Storer House. Princess Margaret opened our doors 59 years ago.
Today, we’re still here. Still feeding hungry people. Still funded by our community’s generosity.
But we need you.
"So I've been surviving on just over £90 a week. And when I look back on it upsets me because I think 'However have I managed to do that?', because it's been really difficult year."

Our 500 plus members aren’t who you might expect. They’re:

In Charnwood, in 2025, people are going hungry. You can stop this.
In the first week of June 2025, 212 couples and families walked through our doors. They shopped for three days of food. They got essentials their families need. They found support, advice, and human kindness.
Without your donation, we can’t be there for them.
