Gardening Club

The next meeting is on 12th March at 2.00 pm when the speaker will be Peter Gardner. Peter is involved in the National Garden Scheme and to keep a local interest he has entitled his talk ‘Gardens of Derbyshire’. The gardens in the National Garden Scheme – known as the Yellow Book – are not open all year but on published dates in the handbook or leaflets. Our outing this year is on THURSDAY 14th MAY to Cascades Gardens, near Matlock – see the JSC noticeboard for details.

At our February meeting Celia Sanger gave a very interesting talk about the changing seasons at Calke Abbey. Often it is only in the spring, summer and autumn that visits to Calke are planned but there were numerous slides with the gardens and woodland around the house covered in snow! Celia spends a lot of her time at Calke as a volunteer and she donated her fee to Calke Abbey as improvements are very much ongoing.

New members and visitors are always welcome. If you have an interest in gardens visit us at the next meeting  for more information.
