On March 22nd John Storer Charnwood attended the Home Instead Older Persons Information Day in Loughborough. It was a great opportunity to meet with the public and promote some of the services JSC runs for older people.
Harry Ludlam, Volunteer Coordinator, attended the event and said “the Alzheimer’s Society, Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation, Nat West, the Foot and Therapy Clinic, LOROS, and local experts on wills and probate, pensions, mobility equipment and end of life planning were available, plus many more organisations. Home Instead made everyone so welcome and included- it is great to see charities and local businesses coming together to help older persons in the community.”
Charlotte Johnson, Director of Home Instead, said “it was a marvellous success. For so many like-minded people to come together to support the elderly was so heart-warming and I am so thankful.“
At present JSC hosts a Lunch Club that runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. We also run low cost volunteer-led activities during the week which include Keep Fit, Line Dancing and Bridge. Our café is open Monday to Saturday, in the mornings and afternoons. It is a great place to meet friends or new people and have a coffee or snack in a warm and welcoming environment and has disabled toilets and a “Changing Places” bathroom, for full accessibility.
We also run Wellbeing Activity Sessions during the day for people who require more support. These are delivered by trained staff with the help of friendly and caring volunteers, and help older people engage, socialise, exercise and have fun. Currently JSC benefits from the contribution of over 135 volunteers, who regularly support the charity and help us deliver vital services to the public. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering and how you can help support people at JSH please email harry@jscharnwood.org.uk
