If these people weren’t here, we wouldn’t eat—it’s as simple as that.

Your Store Customer

From reducing food instability through ‘Your Store’ to offering companionship at our lunch clubs, we fill critical gaps in people’s lives, ensuring no one faces challenges alone.

How Will We Use Your Donation?

We hope you’ll allow us a little choice in where we put your donation to work.

We may use it to repair John Storer House, which, with care, love and attention will last another 40 years – even though right now we need urgent repairs to windows and floors, with a new roof needed in a few years.

We may put it toward transport – taking older people in Charnwood to hospital, the hairdressers, or bringing them into our lunch clubs for good food and company.

Or we may put it towards feeding hungry people around Charnwood.

What we will not do is waste it on high salaries or expensive consultants.

I think I would put the lunch clubs as very special because these are people that probably don’t see anybody. [Some] don’t see anybody from one lunch club to the next. That’s providing something that there isn’t anywhere else.

"Everywhere" Volunteer

Every pound you give helps us build a brighter future for the people of Charnwood by providing essential services that restore dignity and hope.

[John Storer Charnwood] seemed to us to be something from the community for the community, and we very much wanted to do that, and that's the sort of folk we are. The people that you meet here are just so good.

Help Desk Volunteer

Through our volunteer programmes we help people regain confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging within their community.

It does me good to come here and do the exercises. If you're at home you're walking or just doing nothing really. But here, you've got to do it sort of thing. Yeah, you've got to. It keeps me going all the way round.

Keep Fit | Lunch Club | Café Volunteer

From tackling loneliness, keeping people fit, to letting volunteers use their skills (or learn new ones!) we create opportunities that change lives and build stronger communities.

It’s not about the quality of the darts—it’s about everyone coming together and mixing with people you wouldn’t necessarily meet in your day-to-day lives. John Storer House provided not just a room but the support and drive for me to carry on.

Darts For All Community Group Organiser

At John Storer Charnwood people turn their ideas into welcoming community groups—like Darts For All, an inclusive darts initiative that brings all sorts of people together in a safe, welcoming space to connect, play, and belong.

During COVID, we provided food boxes, and now through 'Your Store,' we help people shop affordably for just £3 [a shop]. It’s not just about food—it’s about greeting people, helping them, and being there when they need advice or support.

It's just a feeling of a family. That's how it feels to me. It holds us still, as though it's your extended family, because you make so many friends.

At John Storer Charnwood, we believe no one should face life’s challenges alone—that’s why we’re here to provide friendship, guidance, and vital services to those in need.

This morning a lady walked in... she hadn't spoken to anybody. Lives on her own and she just came in and said, 'Could I just sit down and talk?' So she went and fetched herself a coffee and sat down... because she wanted company.

Every day, John Storer Charnwood provides connection, a listening ear, and practical support to people who need it most—helping them overcome challenges and thrive.

A lady in particular I remember was in tears. She was in an abusive relationship... she stood there sobbing her heart out, and I thought, 'What am I supposed to do?' You really want to put your arms around them and tell them it’ll be all right

Whether it’s a warm meal at a lunch club or advice during tough times, John Storer Charnwood is here to make sure no one is left behind.

We empower people and strengthen communities by providing inclusive spaces, wellbeing services, and volunteer opportunities that help individuals reach their full potential.

Your generosity allows us to create moments of joy—like tea parties for volunteers or Christmas gifts for the children of people who struggle to put food on the table.

Urgent Help Needed

John Storer House is more than a building—it’s a lifeline for our community, hosting vital services like affordable food, wellbeing activities, and spaces for connection and support.

It needs urgent repairs to ensure it remains safe and welcoming for everyone: rotting wooden window frames risk glass panes falling out, and the café floor has become a trip hazard.

Your donation will help us protect the people who rely on this space, preserving it as a centre of community life where lives are empowered and friendships are built.
